Florida man beats ex-girlfriend with bat and tells her she will not make fun of him during attempted kidnapping

HIALEAH, FL – A 35-year-old man faces multiple felony charges after allegedly attacking his former girlfriend with a baseball bat, attempting to kidnap her, and stealing her phone and purse during a violent confrontation in Hialeah.

Alberto Turino Hernandez was arrested Thursday in connection with the assault, which police say occurred just two days after his ex-girlfriend ended their relationship. According to arrest records, Hernandez is charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, armed robbery, attempted kidnapping, and tampering with a witness.

Authorities say the pair had dated for about six months and lived together for part of that time, but the woman ended the relationship due to what police describe as Hernandez’s aggressive and possessive behavior. Following the breakup earlier in the week, Hernandez moved out of the apartment they shared.

The incident unfolded around 2:45 p.m. Thursday on West 12th Avenue. The victim was walking toward her apartment complex when a vehicle pulled up, and Hernandez allegedly confronted her, wielding a baseball bat. Investigators say Hernandez attacked her, striking her multiple times, including blows to her leg and back, while shouting at her in Spanish.

Police state that while the woman cried out for help, Hernandez tried to force her into the vehicle. Despite his efforts, the victim managed to resist by bracing herself with her legs and ultimately fell to the ground. Hernandez is accused of assaulting her further with the bat during the struggle and forcibly taking her phone from her grasp.

Law enforcement reports indicate Hernandez also grabbed the woman’s purse and then fled in the vehicle. Officers responded quickly to the scene, providing aid to the victim and transporting her to a hospital for treatment of her injuries, which included a laceration and bruising.

Within hours of the attack, police located Hernandez inside a box truck and took him into custody without incident. According to authorities, during an interview following his arrest, Hernandez admitted to the assault.

Jail records show Hernandez is being held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center pending further court proceedings. The stolen phone and purse have not been recovered as of Friday.

The investigation is ongoing as officials gather additional evidence and seek potential witnesses. The victim is recovering from her injuries, and support services have been offered.

Court dates for Hernandez have not yet been scheduled. Police urge anyone with information related to the incident to come forward.
