Florida woman on first date is shot in the head by the man’s ex-girlfriend

JACKSONVILLE, FL – A Jacksonville woman was charged with attempted murder after allegedly shooting her ex-boyfriend’s new partner in the head during what was supposed to be a night out on Saturday.

Authorities responded to a violent altercation at the intersection of McDuff Avenue and Post Street, where they found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound, according to records from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. Witnesses identified the shooter as 38-year-old Latorray Collins, who had a firearm in her possession upon the deputies’ arrival.

The investigation revealed that Collins had recently been in contact with her former partner about returning his belongings. Despite his requests to dispose of the items, Collins continued to reach out.

The man, looking to rekindle a relationship with another former girlfriend, had planned an evening out with her and her family members, which led them to a local liquor store.

Events took a turn when Collins actively pursued the couple. As the man and his date drove away from the store, they noticed Collins following them. At one point, she allegedly maneuvered her vehicle to block their path. After the man managed to drive away, Collins persisted in her pursuit, eventually confronting them again at another stoplight.

Witnesses reported that Collins aggressively approached the man’s car, knocking on his window and demanding attention. The situation escalated when Collins began arguing with the man’s date, prompting him to step out of the vehicle in an attempt to calm both women.

During this confrontation, Collins allegedly fired her weapon, striking the man’s date. Emergency responders transported the victim to a nearby hospital, though her condition remains undisclosed.

In a statement to police, Collins claimed she only intended to fire the gun into the air to deter the escalating tensions, insisting the discharge was accidental. Authorities noted that Collins did not initially believe she had injured anyone.

Charged with second-degree attempted murder, Collins is being held at Duval County Jail, her bail set at $250,000. She is scheduled to appear in court on March 11.
