Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream Supports Kern Families Against Crime with Fundraiser Event

Bakersfield, California – Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream shop in southwest Bakersfield was bustling with activity as Kern Families Against Crime hosted a fundraiser on Tuesday night. Formerly known as the Bakersfield 3 Charity, the organization aimed to raise money to support unsolved crimes in Kern County from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The event at Handel’s provided an opportunity for the community to come together and show support for the cause. Kern Families Against Crime, initiated by the Bakersfield 3 moms, is dedicated to raising awareness about unsolved crimes and providing resources to help law enforcement solve these cases.

Olivia LaVoice, the president of the nonprofit, explained that the name change from Bakersfield 3 Charity to Kern Families Against Crime was a deliberate move to be more inclusive and show support for all families in Kern County. The spirit night fundraiser at Handel’s was a part of their ongoing efforts to engage with the community and generate support.

Reflecting on the impact of their work, LaVoice mentioned that while nothing can ease the pain of losing a child, giving back to the community through initiatives like these fundraisers has been healing and fulfilling for the three moms involved in the organization. Despite facing challenges like Diane Bryne’s battle with cancer, the moms remain committed to their cause.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, including Bryne’s health struggles, one of the nonprofit’s major fundraisers, the Tee for Three tournament in June, had to be postponed. However, the community was encouraged to attend the Handel’s spirit night fundraiser as a show of support in place of the golf tournament.

For those interested in backing Kern Families Against Crime, a flyer presented during purchases at Handel’s on Tuesday night was a way to contribute to the cause. The support of the community is crucial for the organization to continue its efforts in raising awareness about unsolved crimes and providing support to law enforcement for solving these cases.
