LEXINGTON, KY – A Lexington man faces murder charges following the fatal stabbing of his child’s mother, an attack that authorities say unfolded in front of their young daughter earlier this year.
Roberto Buffill-Paredes, 43, was arrested in connection with the death of Anisleys Font Lantaron at a home on Larkin Road. Police responded to the residence shortly before 11 a.m. on January 15, where they discovered Lantaron with multiple stab wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
At a preliminary court hearing this week, a Lexington police detective detailed the sequence of events that led to Buffill-Paredes’ arrest, describing a violent altercation in the home’s kitchen. According to testimony, Lantaron sustained almost 20 stab wounds to her torso, arm, back, and neck.
Investigators said Buffill-Paredes called 911 to report the stabbing after the incident. Meanwhile, a second call apparently prompted a welfare check at the location, leading police to the grim discovery.
Authorities allege Buffill-Paredes admitted to attacking Lantaron, then attempted to clean himself and the crime scene before turning his attention to the couple’s 2-year-old daughter. He is accused of moving Lantaron’s body from the kitchen to the living room, wrapping her remains in blankets, and securing them with tape.
During the court proceedings, detectives emphasized the child’s presence during the incident. Buffill-Paredes reportedly told police he tried to prevent his daughter from witnessing the aftermath, leading him to clean up and comfort her after the attack.
Law enforcement officials also collected evidence related to the cleaning of weapons and removal of biological material from the suspect’s hands. The details provided at the hearing painted a harrowing scene that, according to police, unfolded methodically after the stabbing.
The suspect’s attorney noted that the case may involve complexities around child custody. Buffill-Paredes had been the primary caregiver for the toddler, and his defense team suggested ongoing disputes may have played a role in the tragic events.
Buffill-Paredes has entered a not guilty plea to charges including murder, abuse of a corpse, and tampering with physical evidence. He remains held on $1 million bond while awaiting further proceedings.
A grand jury is now expected to review the case to determine whether there is sufficient evidence to proceed with a formal indictment.
