Boston Marathon: Evans Chebet takes home the men’s elite race

Evans Chebet from Kenya claimed the title of the men’s elite race at the 127th Boston Marathon on Monday. Chebet won the race with a time of 2:09:35, while Kenyan runner, Eliud Kipchoge, who was favored to win the race, faded in the latter part of the marathon, coming in eighth place.

Kenyan runner Hellen Obiri also made history, winning the women’s elite race with a time of 2:18:36, breaking the Boston Marathon record and becoming the fourth-fastest woman marathoner ever.

The Boston Marathon, which typically takes place on the third Monday of April, was postponed to October 2023 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year’s marathon was held with strict COVID-19 protocols, including a reduced field size and mask mandates for all participants and spectators.

In addition to the elite runners, over 14,000 runners participated in the marathon, with many raising money for charity. The race started in Hopkinton and ended in Boston’s Back Bay, with thousands of spectators lining the streets to cheer on the runners.

Towards the end of the race, American wheelchair athlete Susannah Scaroni had to pull over on the course due to an equipment malfunction. Despite the setback, Scaroni was able to finish the race and inspire many with her determination and perseverance.

The Boston Marathon is one of the world’s most prestigious marathons, attracting runners from around the globe. The event has a rich history dating back to 1897 and is known for its challenging course, including the infamous “Heartbreak Hill.”
