Man stabs his 30-year-old wife and shoots his mother-in-law while their young kids watch

NEW BRITAIN, CT – A man from Connecticut was apprehended walking along a road a day after authorities say he fatally attacked his wife and mother-in-law in front of his young children.

Christopher Raye, 45, faces charges of murder in connection with the deaths of his wife, 30-year-old Bryana Raye, and her mother, whose name has not been disclosed.

The incident unfolded on January 27 when authorities responded to a call from a woman in Pennsylvania, who reported hearing what sounded like gunshots and a disturbance during a phone call with Bryana Raye’s mother.

When police arrived at the New Britain home, they found Bryana Raye dead in a bedroom with multiple stab wounds and her mother in the living room with a gunshot wound. The woman from Pennsylvania had been on the phone with Bryana’s mom as the family returned home, allegedly leading to frantic exchanges and gunfire. She recounted her harrowing experience to the police, stating that the call included sounds of a scuffle and then a series of loud bangs.

According to the affidavit, a family member present during the attack was in another room playing video games when he heard a gunshot. Upon investigating the noise, he allegedly saw Raye attacking Bryana with a knife. As their two children witnessed the horrifying scene, the family member guided them to safety before demanding Raye leave the premises.

Following the attack, Raye reportedly fled in a truck he used for his landscaping business and turned off his cell phones. Hours later, a co-worker received a troubling call from Raye, who mentioned doing something “very un-normal” and that “something crazy happened.”

Law enforcement officials discovered Raye walking on a road the day after the incident. He was promptly arrested and taken into custody, held on a $1 million bond. Raye faces multiple charges, including first-degree assault with a firearm, risk of injury to a child, criminal possession of a firearm, and illegal discharge of a weapon.

Raye’s court arraignment is scheduled for February 20, marking the beginning of his legal proceedings.
