Police in New Jersey are searching for a man who allegedly threw a Molotov cocktail at a synagogue in an attempted arson.
The incident occurred overnight at a synagogue in Bloomfield, New Jersey, according to the Bloomfield Police Department.
Eyewitness News ABC7NY reported that the suspect was seen throwing the Molotov cocktail at the synagogue and then fleeing the scene.
CNN reported that the suspect attempted to start a fire, but failed. The synagogue was not damaged and no injuries were reported.
The Bloomfield Police Department is now asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect.
ABC News reported that the police are searching for a man who was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and a gray baseball cap.
Meanwhile, FOX 5 New York reported that the synagogue was targeted in a hate crime. The police have yet to confirm this, but the incident is being investigated as a possible hate crime.
