Los Angeles, CA – Despite the recent strike by actors, Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly didn’t let it dampen their Halloween spirits. The Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) had strongly urged its members not to dress up as TV and movie characters, as it could provide free publicity to struck studios and streamers. However, Fox took a different approach and taunted the guild by posting photos of her and Kelly dressed as characters from Quentin Tarantino’s film “Kill Bill: Vol. 1” on Instagram.
Fox perfectly portrayed the teen assassin Gogo Yubari, while Kelly donned Uma Thurman’s iconic blood-stained yellow tracksuit. Unfortunately for SAG-AFTRA, their choice of a 20-year-old film for their Halloween costumes is unlikely to generate any revenue for its distributor, Miramax.
SAG-AFTRA’s Halloween guidance aimed to ensure that recent blockbusters such as “Barbie” and “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” would receive a box office boost from the extra attention. In their announcement, the union emphasized the importance of not promoting content from struck employers without a fair contract. They suggested actors opt for generalized characters like ghosts or zombies and avoid posting costumes from struck companies on social media.
This guidance received criticism from actor Mandy Moore, who argued that SAG-AFTRA should prioritize negotiating a fair deal instead of focusing on Halloween rules. As the strike approaches its four-month mark, SAG-AFTRA leaders and the Alliance for Motion Picture and Television Producers are reportedly making progress towards reaching an agreement.
Representatives for the actors and studios recently had a constructive meeting, with plans to continue negotiations. As the strike continues, it remains to be seen how it will impact the film and television industry in Los Angeles.
