Miami Woman Charged with Attempted Murder Following Tinder Date Gone Wrong

MIAMI, FL – A Miami woman has been charged with attempted murder after police say she ignited her Tinder date in a fiery altercation. Destiny Lenai Johnson, 25, faces additional counts of first-degree arson and aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, according to Miami-Dade County records.

The incident occurred outside a Holiday Inn Express & Suites hotel in Kendall, where Johnson is accused of dousing her date and his car with gasoline before setting them ablaze. The arrest report states that the victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, sustained severe burns and was rushed to a local hospital for treatment.

The violent encounter reportedly began when Johnson requested money from her date to fix her car. Upon refusal, she allegedly exclaimed, “You guys are out to get me,” and proceeded with the attack. The victim managed to escape to the hotel lobby to seek assistance while Johnson reportedly fled the scene.

Later found by police in a state of undress and allegedly making statements about the incident, Johnson was also hospitalized for burn injuries. She has entered a plea of not guilty to all charges.

Judge Lody Jean has since ordered Johnson to have no contact with the alleged victim and, as of her latest court appearance, has been denied bail. She remains in custody at the Miami-Dade County’s Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. Johnson is slated to return to court on December 18.

This case has cast a spotlight on the potential dangers of online dating, prompting renewed discussions on safety measures and precautions for those using dating platforms. Johnson’s case will continue to unfold as the legal process advances.
