Mom uses broom to chase off would-be-kidnapper at Waffle House

NASHVILLE, TN – A suspect is in custody after a shocking incident at a local Waffle House where authorities say he tried to abduct a young boy in front of his family. The disturbance unfolded on the evening of March 3rd at the establishment located at 4021 Nolensville Pike.

Witnesses describe a chaotic scene as 28-year-old Adelin Sepa entered the restaurant around 9:30 p.m., began throwing chairs, and aggressively tossed a salt shaker across the counter. Amidst this commotion, Sepa allegedly wrapped the boy in a bear hug, attempting to kidnap him.

However, the quick actions of the child’s mother and father prevented what might have been a successful abduction. The mother grabbed her son back while also arming herself with a broom to ward off the assailant. Meanwhile, the father pushed Sepa out of the restaurant, thwarting his efforts.

Responding officers took Sepa into custody shortly after the incident. He faces several charges, including Attempted Especially Aggravated Kidnapping of a Victim under 13, Resisting Arrest, and Disorderly Conduct. The bond for Sepa, who is also under an immigration hold, has been set at $78,000 due to this incident and a previous charge of domestic violence.

Further examination into Sepa’s background revealed a 2021 encounter with law enforcement. Scoop Nashville reported that Sepa had allegedly displayed erratic behavior in a Kroger fuel center parking lot, where he brandished a toy sword at customers and celebrated an employee’s birthday by lifting and spinning him against his will, even after being asked to stop.

This latest incident at the Waffle House has left the community rattled, emphasizing concerns over public safety in everyday spaces. Sepa remains in custody as authorities continue to investigate the motives behind his actions and assess his legal status in the country.
