PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Portland rapper Nathaniel Curtis Freeman, also known as ‘Nate Grapes,’ has been sentenced to two consecutive life in prison terms for two separate fatal shootings last year.
The 34-year-old Freeman was sentenced without the possibility of parole for the shooting deaths of 30-year-old Ny’Cole Griffin in April and 30-year-old Morgan “Max” Victor in May of the same year. Griffin was found dead after being dropped off at a hospital, while Victor was found shot dead inside an apartment.
In August, Freeman was found guilty on multiple charges, including two counts of first-degree murder and three counts of unlawful use of a weapon with a firearm.
Freeman’s criminal history includes a 2008 incident in which he was charged for killing a man and injuring another near the University of California Berkeley campus in California. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the shooting stemmed from a dispute at a party.
Freeman is currently in custody in Multnomah County and will be transported to the Oregon Department of Corrections to serve his sentence, according to the county district attorney’s office.
This case highlights the tragic consequences of gun violence and the need for stricter measures to prevent repeat offenders from committing further acts of violence.
