A former Israeli Prime Minister, Ehud Olmert, has revealed that during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Russian leader promised not to harm Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Olmert made the revelation in an interview with The Guardian, saying that Putin had promised him that he would not kill Zelenskyy. In a separate interview with Al Jazeera English, Olmert said that Putin had promised him that he would not harm Zelenskyy in any way.
The former Israeli Prime Minister’s comments come amid increasing tensions between Russia and Ukraine. In recent months, Ukraine has accused Russia of sending troops and weapons into the country in an effort to destabilize the government.
The Hill also reported that an Israeli mediator had confirmed Olmert’s claims, saying that Putin had promised not to kill Zelenskyy.
The situation in Ukraine remains tense, and it remains to be seen what Putin’s promises will mean for the future of the country.
