Rupert Murdoch Confirms Fox News Endorsed False Election Claims

Rupert Murdoch, the executive chairman of Fox News, has acknowledged that some of the network’s hosts endorsed false claims of election fraud during the 2020 U.S. presidential election.

Murdoch made the admission in response to a lawsuit filed against Fox News by a former employee who alleged that the network was engaged in a “gaslighting campaign” to discredit the results of the election. The suit, which was filed in a New York court, also claimed that Fox News was complicit in the spread of false information about the election.

Murdoch acknowledged that some Fox News hosts had endorsed false claims of election fraud, but said that the network had since taken steps to prevent similar misinformation from being aired in the future.

The acknowledgment from Murdoch comes as Fox News is facing increased scrutiny for its role in the spread of false information about the election. In an editorial, The Blade newspaper in Toledo, Ohio, criticized Fox News for its “fake election coverage” and for giving a platform to those who sought to undermine the legitimacy of the election.

The controversy has also raised questions about the role of the media in a democracy and whether news outlets should be held accountable for the spread of false information. While Murdoch has acknowledged that some Fox News hosts endorsed false claims, he has also defended the network’s coverage of the election, saying that it was “fair and balanced.”
