Synagogue Leader Murder Suspect Charged After Two Months of Investigation

DETROIT, MI – A suspect has been charged with the murder of Samantha Woll, a Detroit synagogue leader who was found dead outside her home with multiple stab wounds nearly two months ago. Prosecutors have stated that there is no evidence to suggest that Woll’s death was motivated by antisemitism or hate. The accused, 28-year-old Michael Jackson-Bolanos, appeared in court, entered a not-guilty plea, and was denied bond.

According to Worthy, the prosecutor, there is no indication that the defendant knew Woll. Despite speculation that the murder could be related to the Israel-Hamas conflict, authorities have consistently refuted this notion. Although someone was previously detained as a person of interest, they were later released. The investigation continues, with Police Chief James White emphasizing the complexity and dedication required to solve the case.

Woll, who was 40 years old at the time of her death, served as the president of the Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue and had previously worked for state Attorney General Dana Nessel and Democratic U.S. Representative Elissa Slotkin. The suspect’s defense attorney, Brian Brown, has expressed that they will vigorously defend Jackson-Bolanos, emphasizing the need for substantial evidence.

The tragic case of Samantha Woll’s murder continues to unfold as the legal process moves forward. The community mourns her loss as law enforcement works diligently to bring justice for her and her loved ones.
