SAN ANTONIO, TX – In a tragic turn of events, Christopher Fuentes, 43, was allegedly shot and killed by his daughter’s boyfriend in San Antonio following an altercation that began at a local bar.
Police identified the suspected shooter as Franco Xavier Summers, who is now facing multiple charges, including murder.
Authorities say the incident unfolded early Saturday at a bar where Fuentes, his daughter, and Summers had been drinking. A dispute erupted, prompting Fuentes and his daughter to leave the establishment and head to a nearby Taco Palenque on the 18000 block of Blanco Road, leaving Summers at the bar.
Summers reportedly drove to the restaurant, where the confrontation escalated. When Fuentes approached Summers’ vehicle, police say Summers pulled out a gun and fired several shots, killing Fuentes.
The victim’s daughter fled inside the Taco Palenque, seeking safety, while no other injuries were reported. Fuentes was pronounced dead at the scene.
Summers fled after the shooting but was later apprehended by authorities. Reports indicate that the daughter provided crucial information that led to his arrest. Summers currently faces four charges, including murder, assault of a family member, evading arrest, and failing to stop and give information.
The Fuentes family, concerned for their safety, have chosen to remain private about the details but expressed a deep sense of loss. They described Fuentes as the “cool guy” within the family circle—a man of faith, kindness, and heroism, particularly highlighted by his daughter’s tribute to her father’s protective actions during the incident.
To assist with funeral expenses, the family has initiated a GoFundMe campaign, which, as of Monday, had raised $250 of its $5,000 goal. The page recounts the solemn night, recalling Fuentes’ happiness at spending time with his daughter until the confrontation turned deadly. The post celebrates him as a loving father, cousin, son, and friend who displayed courage until his last breath.
This heartbreaking incident follows another recent tragedy in Illinois, where a mother was shot and killed during a funeral procession, underscoring a concerning trend of violence disrupting moments meant for mourning and remembrance.
