The US Women’s National Team (USWNT) made a statement on the field and off the field Tuesday night, dominating Canada 2-0 in the SheBelieves Cup opener at Exploria Stadium in Orlando, Florida.
Mallory Swanson, who scored both goals for the USWNT, was the star of the match. Her first goal came in the 18th minute as she fired a shot from outside the box that flew past the Canadian goalkeeper. The second goal came in the 57th minute as Swanson drove a shot off the post and into the back of the net.
The USWNT was also showing their support for the labor dispute between the team and U.S. Soccer. The players wore black t-shirts during the warm-up with the slogan “Equal Play, Equal Pay” on the back.
The win was the first for the USWNT in the SheBelieves Cup since 2017, and the team will look to continue their winning streak when they face Brazil in the next match.
The USWNT will have to be on their guard, however, as they face a Brazil team that is coming off a 3-1 win over Canada in their first match.
It will be an exciting match to watch, and the USWNT will be looking to make a statement both on and off the field.
