San Francisco, CA – A Waymo autonomous vehicle was intentionally set on fire in Chinatown after being vandalized by a group of people on Saturday night, according to San Francisco firefighters. The incident took place on Jackson Street between Stockton and Grant around 9:25 p.m. when the vehicle was surrounded by a group of 10 to 15 individuals.
Videos on social media depicted the group of people vandalizing the self-driving car, with another video showing the Waymo vehicle engulfed in flames. A Waymo spokesperson stated that the group of people surrounded the car, tagging it, breaking the windows, and setting off a firework inside the driverless vehicle. Fortunately, there were no passengers inside at the time of the vandalism.
