SANTA ANA, CA – In a grim turn of events, a man fatally attacked his girlfriend and her uncle with a bladed weapon before shooting himself at a Santa Ana storage facility, authorities said Friday.
The incident, which took place on Thursday just before 4:30 p.m. in the 1200 block of Chestnut Avenue, was reported by a woman who said she and her uncle had been assaulted by her boyfriend. The gruesome scene met responding officers as they discovered both victims with stab and gunshot wounds to the upper torso and the suspect with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head.
The deceased were identified by coroner officials as 25-year-old Jordan Block and 64-year-old Brian Martin, both Santa Ana residents, who succumbed to their injuries at the site of the violence. The boyfriend, whose identity has yet to be released, was transported to a nearby hospital in a critical condition.
Upon investigation, authorities unearthed an extensive arsenal of weaponry inside Martin’s storage unit, with an array of swords and knives coming to light. Close to the victims’ bodies, a bloodied spear was recovered, sparking questions about its involvement in the fatal stabbings.
A friend of Martin’s, Jessica Chandler, spoke of Martin’s extensive expertise with bladed weapons. She cited his roles as an expert witness in court and his contributions to Hollywood film training thanks to his deep knowledge and passion for his collection.
Chandler remembered her friend as a man full of affection, intelligence, and humor, calling him the kind of father figure one could only dream of having. According to her, Martin’s outlook on life was one that fostered love, hope, and empathy.
